Something that makes Gregory Crewdson’s photography so compelling to see, is perhaps the quotidian and almost familiarity of the scenes. The perfect and manicured balance of his subjects and they way they are spread around the frame are a delight to explore…this is perhaps the secret of his success.

The large format prints resulting from his work (and his crew!) are sized at 59″x 90″, and are filled with minuscule detail and sublime colors; each of these elements are carefully tendered and placed in order to tell the story as conceived by Crewdson’s himself. Not so long ago, he was completely dependent on large labs to produce traditional C prints for his many exhibitions worldwide. Today he relies on Inkjet printers to create images with the high quality and large scale he needs for his kind of work. “I do everything I can to achieve absolute clarity in a photograph,” said Crewdson. He also believes that the smallest details in his images have important meaning, whether it’s a wallpaper pattern, the light of a distant train, the number of cigarettes resting on an ashtray, or the small print on a prescription bottle. To attain the large scale he requires without compromising quality, Crewdson used the Epson Stylus® Pro 11880 wide-format ink jet printer to create 59×90-inch prints for his Beneath the Roses exhibitions.

The viewing distance for prints, often calculated as twice the diagonal measurement, So in Crewdson’s case is up to 18 feet away. But the clarity and intricacy of Crewdson’s prints lures viewers to get within inches of the intriguing details. “I’m really moved when I see people look at a photograph as if they’ve never seen a print quite like this before.”

No matter what city or country, the “Crewdson plunge” is always in full effect, as people step up close to study the nearly 5×8-foot prints. “I’m really moved when I see people look at a photograph as if they’ve never seen a print quite like this before,” said Crewdson.

There has been a lot of debate in the Inkjet printing industry about the capabilities of a metallic substrate, able of reproducing effects and texture similar to that one of the Kodak Endura paper. We have been successful in finding a substrate that is up for the task. Our metallic paper manages to reproduce such output. Black and white images creates prints with beautiful metallic gradients and astonishing depth. While we specialize for neutral black and white printing, you can also request for toned selenium or sepia-like effects, thus increasing the metallic finish.

Color prints on the other hand, are quite demanding on this ultra high gloss media. Not every color will yield the desire gamut once printed, and skin tones can sometimes be unrealistic. Choosing the right type of image for this substrate can be a rewarding experience; a metallic surface can reveal hidden tonalities or unexpected texture.

Our metallic paper prints are available in sizes from 10” to 44” wide. This is an archival substrate with anti-scratch coating and instant-dry; feel free to contact us for additional information and pricing.

At LePix we introduced these 2 papers initially on demand, but after a couple of successful years and great results we have decided to offer this 2 specialty, environmentally friendly and highly sustainable options on stock

In 2009 the Sugar Cane was introduced, this 300gsm is made from 75% sugar cane fiber, which is a by-product of sugar cane processing and 25% recycled cotton fibers. Sugar Cane 300gsm is a natural white, textured, fine art paper that is OBA free and extremely resistant to aging. It features a premium inkjet coating that ensures prints with rich contrast and detail-ideal for printing warm-tone color and monochrome photographs, as well as fine art reproductions.

On the other hand Bamboo 290gsm was introduced in 2008, and is the first Fine Art inkjet paper to be made of approx 90% highly renewable bamboo fibers, thereby helping to conserve valuable resources. Its natural white tone makes it particularly suitable for warm-hued colors. The paper’s wide color gamut and extreme color density ensures detailed Fine Art prints with a 3 dimensional image sharpness. Hahnemühle will donate a fixed amount – depending on product size – from the sale of each Bamboo paper product towards environmental projects.
